You need to bring something that nobody else is in order for people to want to work with you. A secure site is not negotiable. An insecure site or bloated theme offers more opportunity for your website to be hacked. Google will often have trouble promoting a site built on a template. There are so many people using the same template and the same code that the sites begin to look similar and not something out of the ordinary.
